Dr. Lee Riley is a surgical oncologist by day, sculptor by night. He designed and created the awards for the 2021 and 2022 SCCI Awards.
He grew up in Houston, Texas where his grandmother, a well-known artist , instilled in him a passion for the arts. After the loss of a close family member to cancer, Dr. Riley chose to pursue a career as a cancer researcher and surgeon.
His advanced medical training prepared him for the technical portion of his profession; but not the emotional demands of his field. He uses glass art to create balance in his life, to feel emotionally restored and to recharge his creative energy.
Dr. Riley has donated his art to support numerous cancer fundraising events, worked with resident artists to help his patients create art pieces during their treatments, and hosted successful gallery events to showcase his work.
